How to Bring Better Environment for Ugandan Kids

It has been a rough year because of COVID 19 and the people in need must have suffered the most in this global pandemic era. I want to let you know by this article that, still there are many ways to share your heart before 2021 ends. Why don’t you listen to the stories about Ugandan kids’ long journey for the water?

3.7 Miles of Daily Water Journey

You must have heard that in some countries, accessibility to clean water is extremely low. Uganda is one of those countries. According to the UNICEF report, only 17% of Ugandan people can drink water from safely managed sources. Rest of the population must travel a long way only to get the water from the well and that include kids. What they use to transport the water along the way is the jerrycan, which were originally meant to store the military fuel during the second world war.

The problem is, the jerrycan which kids must bring is 10kg and with water, the weight of it goes up to 19.5kg. The fact that they carry it with their heads or hands without any equipment for 1.8 hours on average because they can’t afford a bag is heartbreaking not to mention how dangerous the unpaved roads with running cars can be. We can only imagine the heavy jerrycans’ effect on their back and spine at such a young age. Moreover, the longer time it takes to go get the water, the more times kids tend to miss school.

Family-Type Children’s Song Animation “Berry Good Farm”

Kids and family-oriented content are surging even with the global trend of an aging society. At the center of it is YouTube, which provides tons of kid content and successfully manages to compensate the kid contents creators, not to mention that it protects kids from the negative impact of social media by blocking the comment section. VR-Book’s Release of VR Classic Fairy Tale Series

VR refers to virtual reality that uses computer graphics to create a simulated environment. The VR industry has developed at an increasingly fast speed and encompasses a broad part of our lifestyle. Among the components that construct metaverse, for example, augmented reality(AR), mixed reality(MR), VR is the most familiar one that is experiencing the most popularity. The VR classic fairy tale series, which features a unique sense of immersion and vitality, goes beyond simply reading fairy tales or watching flat animations where main characters defeat the wolves or explore whales’ stomachs.

The content will be composed of five world-loved fairy tales, including “Three Little Pigs”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “The Bremen Town Musicians”, and “Pinocchio (upper and lower volumes)”, providing both value and enjoyment. Language support is also provided in various language versions such as English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese which helps children to acquire language naturally.

Meanwhile, VR-Book which has been in the VR education business since 2015, plans to produce a total of 26 VR classic fairy tales, starting with the release of the current VR classic fairy tale series.

Chung Young-sun, CEO of VR Book said “The genre of virtual reality can be outstanding in the field of education as one can immerse oneself in fun. I believe VR classic fairy tale series could arouse interest to children who are uninterested in studying.”

It seems like a great strategy to use VR Book to draw attention to rather unpopular studying topics from students. Since the “VR classic fairy tale series” support 4 languages it will be a good language learning experience too. 

VR enables children to enjoy learning. Thus, it can be seen that VR-Book opened a great possibility for an educational industry that can be far more enjoyable. Korean Startup Ji-In Aims to Solve Agricultural Challenges with AI

There exists a South Korean startup that aims to help farmers suffering from agricultural difficulties due to pests caused by climate change, use of pesticides, and volatility in markets and prices caused by complex distribution structures. Founded in September 2019, an agricultural corporation Ji-in (CEO Ho-jin Jeong) introduced an AI artificial intelligence system and launched an “Atti Farmer” project that contains customized work instruction solutions for individual and regional farmers.

As for AI technology development, it has been selected as the “AI voucher support project” by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) and is making all-out efforts to develop technology cooperating with MTEG Co., Ltd. The name of the technology is “A pest identification and prescription system using image recognition technology”. It collects more than 150,000 pest data and learns from artificial intelligence algorithms and establishes a “one-click solution web service” that informs users of the cause, treatment, and drug recommendations. The service is scheduled to be launched in November 2021.

The biggest feature of Atti Farmer is the introduction of an AI artificial intelligence system that enables eco-friendly, high-quality, and multiple harvesting through various information optimized for agriculture and manualization of organic cultivation methods. In addition, it can be used through mobile apps and websites.

The app plans to provide information on how to grow major crops and customized work solutions for individual and regional farmers, and the Atti Farmer’s website offers more accurate agricultural manuals and pest solutions for more than 300 crops through Artificial Intelligence

Farmers can gain more convenient agricultural knowledge through agricultural chatbots and agricultural games. In addition, consumers can gain reliable agricultural information and indirect return experience through Atti Farmer Market, Atti Farmer Return Academy, and Atti Farmer’s commando experience services.
